a cash at Seabrook

December 17th, 2007

Well a friend of mine staked me to the $100 7pm tourney at Seabrook Greyhound Park last Saturday. Much to the surprise and consternation of everyone there my combination of steady play in the beginning and good fortune at the end allowed me to cash at 5th out of 51 players.

I really enjoyed my time at Seabrook. The dealers were very polite and answered all my questions without a trace of patronising tone. My friend enjoyed it, I enjoyed it and we will be back very soon.

bad beats on freerolls

September 23rd, 2007

OK so I pretty much play freerolls. That’s all my bankroll will allow and ya gotta play your bankroll. I get really tired of people of complaining when they lose on a bad beat. It’s rude and it doesn’t really show any class. I’m working on being a better loser really I am but golly it is annoying.

that said. First hand of a freeroll and I’m dealt kowboys. I raise it to pot from first position and middle posit goes allin then the button does the same. I call figuring they both got aces which would better my chances since half the aces in the deck are out. Turns out they do Middle position has A3 and flops a wheel straight. man how annoying is that.

The thing is it’s a freeroll and the first guy was likely to have gone in with garbage to win the first hand. the second guy could have called with anything from pockets pair x to any Ace. Prolly not garbage tho connectors are possible early in a freeroll. Anyway KK seemed like a really good hand.

OK maybe I should have folded the K’s. Is that really what you would have done Jen Harmon.

nothing new much

September 14th, 2007

our house is finally getting finished. We lost the roof during the Patriots day storm and we have been middle class refugees ever since. they finished the elecity last week and will finish hanging sheet rock next week.

luck is about the table

August 4th, 2007

It occurred to me the other day that most of the luck in poker comes from finding the right table to play at.

halfbeard in july BTW This is what I looked like just before I shaved off the halfbeard.  I had an audition for a commercial and this wasn’t the look they wanted.  I got the part.  Course they canceled the commercial which is annoying.

royal flush

August 4th, 2007

finally I hit a royal flush.  I was playing a limit holdem sit and go at absolute poker, on morphine drip and I just kept jamming the pot.  It got me right back in the game which I ended up winning.

You can see the hand at http://www.skartdesigns.net/poker/royal.jpg

in with the best hand

June 13th, 2007

That’s poker baby.  You get your money in with the best hand and hope it holds up.  It often does.  It seems like it often doesn’t.  Isn’t that annoying.

Halfbeard is still available to sponsor.  It doesn’t have to be the main event either.  There are several events that ESPN covers this month.

halfbeard

June 11th, 2007

There are a bunch of companies missing out on a great opportunity.  Everybody I meet asks me about the halfbeard.  And of course I say I’m looking for a sponsor.  It would be so much nicer to say I’m being sponsored by thus and such and even include a tag line.  but not yet.  I haven’t met the right person/company with the right combination of vision and deep marketing pockets.

yet another cash

June 8th, 2007

cashed again in another tourney this morning.  Turned around and increased it by 50% shortly thereafter in a ring game.  Seems like limit is the game for me.  Certainly makes it it difficult to go allin early.

garbage calls

June 1st, 2007

OK, I get it people are gonna call with rags but golly it seemed to happen a lot today.  With the blinds at 150 and 300 and only one caller I raised a pot sized raise from the BB to see if the fellow had anything.  He called with K5off suit and hit both the K and the 5 on the flop.  Sorta put my hand to shame.

OK my hand was nothing special KJs but he shoulda folded when I raised back at him.

Stuff to learn from this.  He and I had been going at it for the better part of an hour.  It’s prolly not the best policy to let your ego get in the way.  He prolly would have called me with anything… No wait he did.

cookie jar

May 30th, 2007

took me a little while but I finally ended the day up.

One of the really nice things about playing tight is that when you bluff you often get away with it. and when you bluff again you may get away with it, too.

Conversly one of the nice things about playing aggressively is that when you have a hand nobody believes it and poof you felt em.  Course you will get caught with your hand in the cookie jar occassionally and have to fold.

That’s what happened to me I kept bluffing they’d bluff back at me and I’d fold.  Finally I would have a hand, reraise them and they’d be pot committed and out.  I got called and raised with some really odd 84 off suit type hands today.

But as I said I came out ahead so that’s OK
